WHAT’S IN A NAME?
The blackening of teeth was, and in some cultures still is, a significant sign of beauty. From Japan and Thailand to Peru and Ecuador. To the modern eye, it may seem that the teeth are unclean and decaying; however, the black lacquer over the teeth actually protects the teeth from decay well into old age.
The standards of beauty change as time goes on, but as a society, we continue to seek perfection under the standards of what is currently considered beautiful. Help the world understand that true beauty is relative to each individual experience, and is timeless in essence.
